In 2011 the Government introduced a new “Pupil Premium” fund for schools to use in order to support the most vulnerable and disadvantaged pupils and to close the gap in their learning and development. The aim is that schools use the fund to help move these children’s learning forward and accelerate their progress.
From Sept 2012 the Government requires all schools to publish online information about how schools make use of the pupil premium.
The money is allocated based on the number of pupils receiving Free school Meals (FSM). This is because children in this category have, nationally, consistently attained lower results in schools.
