Governors

The governing body is made up of a maximum of 12 people who have volunteered to use their skills, time and experience for the benefit of the school.

The governing body is made up of:

  • Parent governors – elected by the parents at the school
  • Staff governor (teachers/support staff)
  • The Head Teacher
  • Local Authority governors – governors appointed by the local authority
  • Co-opted governors – these governors are appointed by the governing body to represent the community that the school serves.

As Governors, our primary focus is to enable and support the Head Teacher in our shared goal of providing the best education possible for the children at Orchard. We do this through meetings of the governing body and its committees and the formal and informal visits made to the school when we have an opportunity to talk to the children, staff and the Head Teacher.

The governing body meets at least twice a term to discuss current issues and future plans; it considers the work of the committees and receives recommendations. The committees have the opportunity to discuss and consider ideas, proposals and plans to enhance and improve the school.
